While here in Rochester at the Literacy Zone Summit, I've been keeping track of panels and workshop in a blog in the Members Group: Literacy Zones. I've include lots of detail about the content of sessions and links to resources and web sites. The blog is set up with a directory -- you'll see it once you click on read more. You may read a section that most interests you.
There was lots of information to digest these past two days. I couldn't possibly do it justice, but the blog will give you information you can use and consider. I'll be using this information to plan future staff development and training for all adult education programs in the region.

The HVCP community site, www.hvcp.org, has been launched since January 2009, only six weeks ago. It's been a lot of work and there is still lots to do.
All the work has been worth it. I am encouraged by the numbers who have registered to become members of our online community. Encourage your colleagues and friends to join us. It's easy, go to Become a Member and follow the directions.
Once you become a community member, log-in. You'll be surprised and pleased by the information and resources you can access.
You tell me that you use our community's resources, some to advocate on behalf of adult education funding, while others share health literacy materials and curricula with colleagues. I love hearing your stories, so keep them coming.
There's lots of work yet to be done. Your excitement makes getting it done a joy.

I'm writing this during a brand new morning of a brand new year. The sky's the kind of blue that makes one believe in the lyrics -- on a clear day you can see forever. A snow, so clean and white as to make the chemists at Proctor&Gamble envious, glows in winter sunlight. This morning restores hope in new beginnings.
As educators, we have challenges ahead, and opportunities as well. For many weeks to come the days will be short, and the nights long and dark. But there comes a time, it does every year, when the balance between light and dark is restored. Until then hold onto the glory of this morning and its promise for the future.
Happy 2009!

Welcome to HVCP's Director's Blog |

I've been director of the Hudson Valley Catskill Partnership for fifteen years. I have guided HVCP through a number of transformations. This web site is among them and may prove to be the most innovative, rewarding, although at times frustrating, of the changes I have experienced.
Okay, so change may be a word you have heard one hundred too many times lately. Nonetheless, I'd like to borrow a campaign slogan -- change you can believe in. HVCP promises to deliver change you can believe in. What kind of change?
HVCP wants you to take control of your learning and professional development. Instructional models have progressed over the years from teacher-centered, to student-centered, and now to learner-driven. Since we are all learners, this applies to us and our continuing learning as well.
HVCP has taken the first step toward building a web site that puts you in the driver's seat. Not only will you drive, but you will leave a smaller carbon foot-print. Connect with colleagues by mouse click rather than getting behind the wheel of a gas combustion, carbon spewing, global warming machine. You won't burn hard to come by dollars, nor have to show up at inconvenient times and locations.
